About Us
Company History
Segamat Panel Boards Sdn Bhd (SPB) was established in August 2002 and its major shareholder is Mr. Shigetoyo Takeuchi. He is the son of Mr. Hikozo Takeuchi the founder of Takeuchi MDF and the co-founder of Merbok MDF. An experienced team with MDF manufacturing background was assembled led by Mr. Peter Fitch (Managing Director) who was fresh from installing an MDF line for PTP in China. Once the green light for the project was given it was a very fast track project. The location was identified as Segamat in North Johor on the border of the states of Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang. This was identified as an area still rich in Rubberwood resources which is the all important raw material to produce the high quality light coloured MDF. The vacant site possession for the 18 acre site was given on the 1st August 2002 and on 2nd April 2003 the first panel was produced a mere eight months later. Since then the Company has moved from strength to strength. In the middle of 2008, the Company decided to expand its operations. In 2008 it entered into a Joint Venture with an Indonesian company to commence operation of thick panel Particleboard line in Kalimantan, Indonesia for the domestic market. In 2009 a second line was installed at its existing Segamat site to produce high quality thin panel Particleboards. Production from this line will be commercially available from 2010. |

Thin Panel Particleboard
SPB invested in a particleboard line in year 2009 and the production started in year 2010. The capacity of this line is about 3,500m3 monthly. We will still emphasize on the thin panel production with thickness ranges from 3mm to 8mm. This will suit the more cost conscious markets that currently find MDF to be too expensive.
Most of the sizes and resin specifications for the current MDF boards range will eventually also be offered in particleboard. Some of the common panel sizes will be:-
- 4ft x 8ft (1220mm x 2440mm)
- 4ft x 6ft (1220mm x 1830mm)
- 3ft x 7ft ( 930mm x 2100mm)
